Dias Classic Cars is a classic car restoration shop that specializes in the restoration of classic and muscle cars while bringing in the modern conveniences of today’s daily drivers. The business was founded by Ray Dias Jr. and his son Paul Dias in 2015, but their passion for car restoration and customization began early on in life. As a teenager, Ray worked at the local mechanic’s shop in the small town of Stratford, CA. This was where he developed his skill for working on almost anything automotive. In his off time, the owner would let Ray work on his own personal projects, so Ray began by building go-carts.
Much like many classic car owners, Ray bought his first 1957 Chevrolet 4-door hardtop when he was in high school. He spent many hours working on the performance of that car as he raced it over and over, rarely losing. Years later, he bought his first NEW car. It was a 1964 Pontiac GTO, right off the showroom floor.
Ray has passed his passion for classic cars on to his son Paul. As a young boy, Paul would help his dad work on their cars in the garage. This continued for years until Paul was big enough to operate a vehicle by himself. He loved being in the driver’s seat so much. He spent his spare time washing cars for the employees where his dad worked, tuning up the lawn mower, and rebuilding the carburetor on his dirt bike.
In 1979, Ray got the itch to have a ’57 Chevy again. He and Paul hitched a ride down to Los Angeles and purchased the 1957 two-door hardtop that they still own today. This was the beginning of what would become a car collection that many gear-heads dream of.
Paul took automotive courses in high school and college and attained a Vocational Certification in Advanced Automotive Mechanical Systems all while spending countless hours restoring, tuning, and customizing their personal vehicles. For work, Paul found jobs that would keep him focused on his passion of driving and working with anything automotive. Through this, he honed his skills in paint and body, electrical systems, mechanics, and transport.
In the late ‘80’s, Ray and Paul were very active in the car show scene which ultimately landed Paul and their 1957 Chevy on the cover of Popular Hot Rod Magazine.
In 1991, Ray opened Radius Tire Company in Corcoran, CA. With Paul at his side, the three-man shop grew to be the tire company of choice for many major farming companies in the area. During this time, Ray and Paul began to acquire additional project cars to restore as a hobby. People began to see the quality of their finished project cars. Many times, folks would stop by to ask Ray and Paul if they would be interested in restoring their project vehicles.
In June of 2015, Ray retired and sold the tire company. He and Paul had planned DCC to be a place for them to maintain their personal collection. However, with much prodding from potential customers, they decided to share their years of experience and knowledge with others. Their core values include honesty, integrity, fair pricing and customer service. The father and son team have taken the same qualities that made the tire shop a huge success and have applied them to Dias Classic Cars. Ray and Paul are driven by the desire to transform a troublesome classic or muscle car into a vehicle that anyone can drive comfortably and effortlessly on the roads today.
Each vehicle provides a unique challenge, and the guys take pride in each restoration, enhancement, and modification. For this father and son team, working with customers to create the vehicle they’ve always dreamed of has become a way of life.
